Weekly Update

We have had a nice week with a little more regular schedule. The girls are really enjoying our current book, Flora and Ulysses. It's a little wacky and funny! Ask your daughter what Flora means when she says "Do not hope; instead, observe." We are also reviewing lots of math topics and visiting a few new ones, as well. In History, the girls are studying the regions of the United States. Friday, May 3 will be the Quiz on the states and capitals of the SouthEast Region. The girls appear to have done very well on the NorthEast region despite their worry! A valuable part of this exercise of memorizing the states and capitals is the process of setting a goal and working toward it - studying for the quiz each night. Please help build your daughter's study skills and confidence by helping her with this process each night.

💖For an upcoming project, please email
a Mother/Daughter photo to me by Wednesday, May 1.💖
(photo can be a current photo or an older one)

Weekly Update

WOW ~ What an Incredible Week!
The girls did a wonderful job on their musical, The Jungle Book.
It has been such a delight watching them grow into these parts.
I am so proud of them, and I know you all join me in sharing a huge Congratulations!
I am sure the girls are ready for a restful weekend after such a busy and exciting week.
My photos are below, and the school's fab photos are HERE.

🌙🌙🌙🌙🌙🌙🌙🌙🌙

The Solar Eclipse was also a highlight of this special week. The girls took great delight in watching the progression of the eclipse. We feel so lucky that the clouds waited until later to cover the view of the sun.

Looking for Carpool Helpers!

Each student has had 2 turns opening car doors in the morning, and we have 6 more weeks that we need help. I know some of the girls like this job better than others, and it is easier to get to school early for some than others...so I thought I would ask - anyone want to open car doors?

Email me at amiller@st.catherines.org
if your daughter would like another turn - we even need someone this week.

Please read on for important dates and costume info - costume pieces are due on Monday.

Rising Fifth Grade Parent Meeting at 10:30 in Kenan-Flagler Auditorium (KFA) in Washington Hall

COSTUME PIECES needed from home ~  details here ~ bring to school on Monday, April 8.

We are also looking forward to Monday's solar eclipse. It is hard to imagine, but the next time there will be a solar eclipse will be in 2044. The girls will be 30 years old! Please read below for details regarding the eclipse:

The eclipse will occur from approximately 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
with the maximum coverage in this area occurring around 3:20 p.m.

With safety in mind, it is our intention to help our Lower School students explore and experience this important event.

  • Glasses have been purchased for every student so that they can view the eclipse safely.

  • Prior to the event, teachers are spending time reviewing the critical importance of wearing our eclipse glasses while looking at the sun. We suggest that girls do not look directly at the sun even with the glasses on - they should glance up then look down and follow this process while viewing the eclipse. Please reiterate this message at home and remind your children that directly viewing the sun without protective glasses can cause significant harm to eyes.

  • Dismissal will be indoors and proceed as usual with carpool beginning at 3:00 p.m. for EL-Grade 1 and 3:30 p.m. for Grades 2-4

  • We understand that many of you may want to view this event with your children. Should you choose to pick up your child early, please make sure to notify lsattendance@st.catherines.org well in advance of dismissal time to help us get the children safely dismissed.

We are very excited for this historic event and look forward to sharing it with your children!
