Weekly Update

What a week we have had!
From the Super Bowl (yes, that was this week!) to Ash Wednesday to Valentine's Day, it has felt like Christmas around here. A nice long weekend is just what we all need to reset for a productive (mini)week next week. Please note that we have Monday and Tuesday off of school. We managed to squeak in some fractions this week, and we finished Number the Stars today. We will work on some comprehension activities and reflection writing next week, as well as reading two pictures books that touch on the same subjects covered in Number the Stars

On Wednesday, the girls had a wonderful time opening their Valentine Boxes - the room was filled with many, many "Thanks! Thank you for the card! and Thank you's!" The girls also enjoyed singing some Taylor Swift songs, and they had a fabulous treat - thank you to everyone for making Valentine's Day so special.

Weekly Update

Happy Year of the Dragon! Ask your daughter to wish you a Happy New Year in Chinese. The girls are enjoying working on their second language of the year. In math, we have continued our work on making equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. The girls are ready for an assessment this week before we move on to mixed fractions and converting improper fractions. Number the Stars has the girls begging to read more, and I think we will finish this week. In History, the girls completed an ABC book on the Oregon Trail this week. Now we will focus on some amazing leaders to celebrate Black History Month. Ask your daughter who she is researching.

World Language Week has been celebrated all over school this week - the girls had a blast learning the salsa. I am always so impressed with this precious group. They are always up for jumping right in to try new things. Their positive outlook and spunky sense of fun shines through them!

Girls should bring their Valentine Box and class Valentines to school on Monday - or at least by Tuesday, if they are not ready yet.

Weekly Update

February arrived! We continue to focus on fractions in math, and I am proud of the girls' work and strong understanding of equivalent fractions. Be sure to ask your daughter why you get an equivalent fraction when multiplying the numerator and the denominator by the same number. In History, we have begun our final project with westward expansion, an ABC book. I think a publisher may knock on my door this book is going to be so cute. Reading is our favorite time of day right now - the girls are loving Number the StarsIt is a page-turner! I am especially having fun tying in my trip with what we are reading. In addition, the girls are particularly tickled that so many parents remember reading this Newberry Award winner in Middle School. On the vocabulary front, we had a blast checking out each other's costumes for W.W. Dress Up Day. Photos below.

For the next few weeks, we will be taking a pause on spelling to allow for a mid-year assessment and evaluation of which skills on which to focus. We also will have the mid-year ERB tests the week of February 12, so homework will be lighter that week.

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and we will have a class celebration on Wednesday, February 14. The girls may start working on a mailbox (about shoebox size) to hold cards from their classmates. They can be as creative with this as they would like, and it would be great to have the boxes and Valentines in
by Monday, February 12
They need to make a card for each student in our class, and here is a class list:
