February arrived! We continue to focus on fractions in math, and I am proud of the girls' work and strong understanding of equivalent fractions. Be sure to ask your daughter why you get an equivalent fraction when multiplying the numerator and the denominator by the same number. In History, we have begun our final project with westward expansion, an ABC book. I think a publisher may knock on my door this book is going to be so cute. Reading is our favorite time of day right now - the girls are loving Number the Stars. It is a page-turner! I am especially having fun tying in my trip with what we are reading. In addition, the girls are particularly tickled that so many parents remember reading this Newberry Award winner in Middle School. On the vocabulary front, we had a blast checking out each other's costumes for W.W. Dress Up Day. Photos below.
For the next few weeks, we will be taking a pause on spelling to allow for a mid-year assessment and evaluation of which skills on which to focus. We also will have the mid-year ERB tests the week of February 12, so homework will be lighter that week.Valentine's Day is right around the corner and we will have a class celebration on Wednesday, February 14. The girls may start working on a mailbox (about shoebox size) to hold cards from their classmates. They can be as creative with this as they would like, and it would be great to have the boxes and Valentines in by Monday, February 12.
They need to make a card for each student in our class, and here is a class list:
